Rapper GloRilla was arrested on felony marijuana possession charges following a burglary investigation at her Georgia home, authorities said.
According to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a burglary in progress at a home on Saturday at around 1:30 a.m. “It was reported that three suspects had entered the home and were in the process of stealing items when an armed occupant fired at the intruders. The suspects fled the scene, and it does not appear that any of them were struck. No injuries were reported among the home’s occupants,” authorities said in a press release.
Since there were shots fired during the incident, Major Crimes detectives responded to investigate the scene. It was at that time when deputies “detected a strong odor consistent with illegal narcotics,” the sheriff’s office said.
Drug Task Force agents were then called to the scene and obtained a search warrant for the home. During their search, “a significant amount of marijuana was discovered in plain view inside the master bedroom closet,” per authorities.
The homeowner, GloRilla, whose real name is Gloria Woods, was not home during the burglary. However, she voluntarily turned herself in to the Forsyth County Jail on Tuesday, where she was charged with felony possession of marijuana and possession of schedule one controlled substance. The rapper was released the same day on a $22,260 bond.
“The homeowner is a victim of a serious crime, and we are committed to bringing the suspects to justice,” Sheriff Ron Freeman said in a statement. “At the same time, we must continue to uphold and enforce the law in all aspects of this case.”
The sheriff’s office stated that the investigation into the burglary remains active and ongoing as they continue to search for the suspects.
The Hollywood Reporter has reached out to GloRilla’s attorneys for comment.
Following the burglary at her home early Saturday morning, GloRilla performed later that night at the WNBA All-Star game in Indianapolis.
