On Wednesday, July 30, Walt Disney Animation Studios released a new trailer for the sequel to 2016’s animated hit Zootopia, which will see Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman reprise their roles as police officers Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde in the fictional animal-populated city.
The trailer meets Judy and Nick as they attend partners’ counseling sessions to learn how to work together days after formally becoming partners on the police force.
In Zootopia 2, Judy and Nick are tasked with tracking down the whereabouts of a snake named Gary De’Snake who has traveled into Zootopia. As Nick says, snakes are not found in the city often. On their adventures, the pair run into a number of new animal characters and chase Gary De’Snake through the streets of Zootopia.
According to a synopsis, the movie follows Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde when they “find themselves on the twisting trail of a mysterious reptile who arrives in Zootopia and turns the mammal metropolis upside down.”
“To crack the case, Judy and Nick must go undercover to unexpected new parts of town, where their growing partnership is tested like never before,” the synopsis reads.

Shakira joins Bateman and Goodwin in the movie as she reprises her role as Gazelle from the 2016 original. Other voice actors include Fortune Feimster as a beaver named Nibbles Maplestick, Quinta Brunson as the quokka partner therapist Dr. Fuzzby, and Idris Elba as Chief Bogo.
Zootopia 2 is directed by Jared Bush and Byron Howard. “We are beyond excited to welcome everyone back to the outrageous, expansive animal metropolis of Zootopia, and take audiences on a hilarious, wild ride into parts of the city we’ve never visited before,” Bush said in a statement in May, when the movie released an initial teaser trailer.

“Whether it’s the marshes of semi-aquatic mammals, the vast desert dunes or even greater mysteries beyond, our heroes Judy and Nick will meet a lot of new friends, and discover even more about the world, themselves and a brand-new snake in town,” Bush added in his statement.
