FOX’s Joel Klatt praises Penn State’s Tyler Warren while unloading on the Lions’ WRs

Joel Klatt is the No. 1 college football analyst for FOX during the college football regular season.

Klatt, a former college quarterback at Colorado, was also part of the NFL Network’s 2025 NFL draft coverage on Thursday night in Green Bay.

He was a big fan of the Indianapolis Colts’ selection of Penn State star tight end Tyler Warren with the No. 14 pick overall.

But while fawning over Warren, a first-team All-American who caught 104 passes for 1,233 yards and eight touchdowns in 2024, he also leveled some strong criticism of Penn State’s 2024 wideout group.

Said Klatt of Warren of his 2024 effort at PSU: “They snapped it to him, handed it to him, pitched it to him, screened it to him, sent him down the seam.

“Every different way you could possibly get the ball to (No.) 44, they were getting the ball to 44 and yet, he was always natural and comfortable in those situations, and that’s rare. That’s why he reminds me a little bit of Travis Kelce, ‘cause he’s just comfortable, no matter what, on the football field.”

And Klatt also had this to say about Warren, and Penn State’s wideout play:

“Here’s what I loved about him is that, not to disparage their wide receiver corps but their wide receiver corps was non-existent,” Klatt said.

“And so, the focal point of the pass defense was always on Warren, which means that they needed to be creative, and they were able to do that.”

Penn State’s wideouts did not catch a pass in the Lions’ 27-24 Orange Bowl loss to Notre Dame in a college playoff semifinal played in early January.

And in the Lions’ regular-season loss to Ohio State at Beaver Stadium in November, PSU’s wide receivers were limited to three catches for 49 yards.

Penn State’s top two wideouts in terms of 2024 production left the Lions’ program via the transfer. Harrison Wallace III moved on to Ole Miss and Omari Evans left for Washington.
