Former Grand Junction Rockies Coach, World Series Champion Bobby Jenks, dies at 44

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – Bobby Jenks, who made a stop in Grand Junction during his illustrious baseball career, has died at 44 years old.

It was announced earlier in the year that Jenks was diagnosed with Stage 4 adenocarcinoma, a form of stomach cancer.

During his time as head coach for the Grand Junction Rockies, Jenks he led the team to a 62-33 record and capturing Grand Junction’s second league title in franchise history, in his first season as manager for a professional baseball team.

Jenks had been serving as the manager of the Windy City ThunderBolts, from Crestwood, Ill. in the Frontier League.

Prior to his managerial career, Jenks had a very successful playing career, he was a two-time All-Star closer and World Series champion with the Chicago White Sox in 2005.

During that title run in 2005 Jenks recorded four saves in six appearances in the postseason.

Jenks retired 41 consecutive hitters in 2007, tying the record for a relief pitcher.
