Eagles releasing Darius Slay: 5 landing spots for former All-Pro CB

Pittsburgh Steelers

The Steelers almost always field a strong defense under Mike Tomlin, often led by veteran players who fit well in their system. Slay Jr. could be their next veteran addition and could see Pittsburgh as a desirable spot with the opportunity to play for Tomlin and Teryl Austin, who was Slay Jr.’s defensive coordinator toward the beginning of his career in Detroit. A reunion with Austin would be a nice story, but the Steelers could simply use help at cornerback opposite Joey Porter Jr., particularly with the possibility of losing Donte Jackson and Cameron Sutton in free agency this offseason. Pittsburgh struggled with its pass defense overall in 2024, ranking 25th in the league while giving up 228 passing yards per game. Slay Jr. could help improve that number and would form a highly talented secondary featuring him, Porter Jr. and Minkah Fitzpatrick.
