Dungeon of Doom: Our thoughts after Lions take Ohio State DL in first round

ALLEN PARK — The Detroit Lions added some serious beef to their defensive line in the first round of the 2025 NFL draft.

Detroit took Ohio State defensive lineman Tyleik Williams with its 28th overall pick on Thursday night. Williams provides an immediate boost to the run defense, while giving the Lions a long-term option to build alongside Alim McNeill in the trenches.

Williams was a productive four-year player and two-year starter for the Buckeyes. He’s a massive presence with impressive agility for someone who measures 6-foot-3, 330 pounds.

MLive’s Dungeon of Doom podcast is here to offer their thoughts on the pick and how Williams fits into the equation. Hosts Ben Raven and Kory Woods also want to remind everyone why it’s important to listen to Brad Holmes when he says he doesn’t reach for need in the draft.

“He’s got the bend and the agility. He’s a very nimble athlete, but the thing about it is that he’s incredibly instinctive, too,” Lions general manager Brad Holmes said after the pick. “In my opinion, him and one other DT that were in this class were the top-two instinctive defensive tackles in this whole class, and he was one of those guys.

“I think his versatility is really going to help. He has a lot of similar traits to Alim McNeill, almost a similar body type.”
