Douglas County residents clean up damage caused by severe storms

HOSPITAL WITH LIFE THREATENING INJURIES. THE OVERNIGHT STORMS KNOCKING OUT POWER TO TENS OF THOUSANDS IN THE METRO, OPPD SAYS AN UNUSUALLY WET SUMMER CAUSED MANY TREES TO UPROOT AND FALL INTO POWER LINES. NEIGHBORS TELL ME THAT THIS PARK JUST GOT FIXED UP, BUT IF YOU TAKE A LOOK. THERE JUST BRANCHES EVERYWHERE. AND YOU LOOK BEHIND ME. THERE’S TRASH CANS THAT AREN’T WHERE THEY’RE SUPPOSED TO BE. THERE, WHERE THE KIDS WOULD PLAY. AND IF YOU ALSO, IF YOU FOLLOW ME A LITTLE BIT OVER HERE, WE’RE GOING TO MOVE A LITTLE QUICKLY. THERE ARE TENNIS COURTS OVER HERE. AND THE FENCING THERE IS A LITTLE BROKEN UP TOO. BUT IT’S NOT JUST THE PARK THAT’S BEEN AFFECTED. IT’S ALSO THE PEOPLE HERE AS WELL AND THEIR HOUSES. SO MANY ARE STILL OUT OF POWER AT THIS POINT. THE WIND DOWNED MANY POWER LINES, SENDING THEM IN EVERY DIRECTION, CAUSING DAMAGE LIKE UPROOTED TREES AND BROKEN FENCES. THE PEOPLE IN VALLEY HAVE BEEN CLEANING UP SINCE THE STORM LET UP AROUND 7:00, AND MANY ARE THANKFUL TO HAVE GENERATORS WHICH HAVE GOTTEN THEM THROUGH THE OUTAGES AND HELPING EACH OTHER. NOW CLEAN UP THE MESS THAT WAS CAUSED BY THE STORM. HE WAS OUT FIRST THING THIS MORNING WITH A LITTLE SAWZALL. LIKE HELPING PEOPLE CLEAR LIMBS, LIKE HE WAS WALKING ALL OVER TOWN JUST CLEARING LIMBS FOR PEOPLE, WHICH IS KIND OF WHAT EVERYBODY DOES AROUND HERE. SO. I SPOKE WITH OPPD AND THEY SAY THERE’S STILL ABOUT 15,000 OUTAGES, BUT THEY’RE WORKING AROUND THE CLOCK RIGHT NOW. THEY DO SAY THAT SEVERE WEATHER OVERNIGHT COULD AFFECT HOW SOON YOU GET YOUR POWER BACK. WE’LL BE BACK AT 10:0

A woman was killed, and a man was hurt at Two Rivers State Park after a tree fell on their vehicle.

KETV reporter Pete Cuddihy has been in Valley for most of the day.

Neighbors told him the park was just fixed up recently, but most wouldn’t realize that with how the storm damaged the area.

There are branches everywhere, trash cans knocked over, and even damage to the pickleball court. But the park wasn’t the only part of town that was affected.

Most neighbors in Valley are still without power as of 6 p.m. Saturday.
