Conor McGregor Mocks Anthony Smith’s Brutal Retirement Fight and Deletes Tweet

UFC veteran Anthony Smith endured a heartbreaking end to his storied career at the Kansas City event, suffering a brutal loss to Zhang Mingyang in the co-main event. In a relentless display of power, Zhang overwhelmed Smith with vicious elbows that opened up a deep gash on the veteran’s head. It left blood pouring onto the canvas in a graphic scene that underscored the intensity of the bout.

Smith, a longtime fan favorite known for his resilience and grit, fought valiantly but was unable to withstand Zhang’s brutal assault. As blood streamed down his face, the referee was eventually forced to intervene, stopping the fight and handing Smith a tough defeat in what he had hinted would be his final UFC appearance.

The MMA community was quick to pour out tributes for Smith following the bout. Fighters, fans, and analysts took to social media to honor his career, praising his toughness, sportsmanship, and long-standing contribution to the sport.

However, not everyone showed the same respect. Former UFC double champion Conor McGregor stirred controversy when he posted a mocking emoji on X, seemingly aimed at Smith’s defeat. The post, viewed as insensitive by many, sparked immediate backlash. Realizing the uproar, McGregor deleted the tweet within minutes, but not before screenshots circulated online.

Smith and McGregor have had a tense relationship in the past, making the timing and tone of McGregor’s jab all the more pointed. McGregor’s beef with Smith dates back to over 2 years and ever since the war of words they have been at each other’s throats.

Regardless, Smith leaves behind a legacy of toughness, professionalism, and countless memorable moments inside the Octagon.

While it was not the fairytale ending he may have hoped for, Smith’s career will be remembered with great respect by most in the MMA world — a warrior who gave everything he had to the sport.
