According to multiple reports — this one from Jordan Schultz — the Kansas City Chiefs have signed former San Francisco 49ers running back Elijah Mitchell to a one-year contract worth up to $3.5 million.
The former Louisiana running back was acquired in the sixth round (194th overall) of the 2021 NFL Draft after posting a 4.38-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine. Coming into his rookie season at 5 feet 10 and 200 pounds, he ran for 4.7 yards per attempt as he collected 963 yards (and five touchdowns) on 207 attempts in just 11 games, which included 10 starts.
He appeared in only five games the following year (with one start) after suffering two different MCL injuries, then 11 more (including one start) in 2023, accumulating 560 yards (and four touchdowns) on 120 carries over those two years. Shortly before last year’s final cutdown, San Francisco placed him on its Reserve/Injured list with a hamstring injury. He spent the rest of the season there.
Now 26, he’ll be hoping to get his career rebooted in Kansas City.
