Brady Tkachuk's Immediate Reaction After Senators Beat Maple Leafs

After helping extend the Ottawa Senators’ season with a 4-0 road win over the Toronto Maple Leafs in Game 5, Brady Tkachuk made it clear what he expects when the series shifts back to Ottawa.

Tkachuk, who made franchise history on Tuesday by scoring three points in an elimination game for the Senators, anticipates a deafening, hostile environment for Game 6 in Ottawa.

The Senators’ victory cut Toronto’s first-round series lead to 3-2. The Senators have now won back-to-back elimination games after falling behind 3-0.

“I expect pure insanity,” Tkachuk said. “They know how important they are, how much juice they give us. We just want to represent them well.

”When they’re buzzing like that, it’s hard to describe how it feels for me and for this whole group. The amount of energy we get from them is huge.”

Tkachuk scored one goal and assisted two more while goalie Linus Ullmark shut the Leafs out in Game 5, stopping all 29 shots he faced.

“We’re not going to go away easy,” Tkachuk told Sportsnet immediately after the game. “Our season’s been on the line the last two games. Our mindset’s not going to change. You lose—you go home.

”We’re going to do everything it takes and leave everything we have out there.”

The Senators had dropped the series’ first three games but responded with a 4-3 overtime win at home in Game 4 and Tuesday’s defensive effort at Scotiabank Arena.

Thomas Chabot opened the scoring for the Senators early in the second period, assisted by Tkachuk. Dylan Cozens doubled the lead a little over eight minutes into the third period in a short-handed situation.

Finally, Tim Stutzle and Tkachuk scored back-to-back empty-net goals inside the final three minutes of regulation to wrap up Ottawa’s win.

“It took everybody,” Tkachuk said. “Our best player tonight was Linus, who made some huge saves for us, but it took everybody on the bench, everybody in our room.

”Everybody wanted to win. Our will to win was high and I think it paid off.”

Game 6 is scheduled for Thursday night at Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa, where the Senators look to continue their comeback and force a win-and-in Game 7 for both teams in Toronto.
