For the first time in nearly four decades, “New York’s Team” will head into the Big East men’s basketball tournament as the No. 1 seed.
In what has been a historic season, Rick Pitino has led St. John’s to the No. 1 seed in the 2025 men’s Big East tournament at New York’s Madison Square Garden, thanks to a program-best 18-2 record in Big East play.
Spearheaded by their tenacious defense, which ranks No. 3 on KenPom in adjusted defensive efficiency, the Red Storm enter the conference tournament as one of the hottest teams in the country, winners of 16 of 17 games to end the season and rising to No. 6 in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll.

Behind the Johnnies are No. 2 seed Creighton and No. 3 seed UConn, which locked up a top three seed with wins over Seton Hall and Marquette earlier this week. The Golden Eagles will be the No. 5 seed after dropping a heartbreaker in overtime to the Red Storm on Saturday and losing a head-to-head tiebreaker with Xavier.
Though they are a five-seed and secured a first-round bye, Shaka Smart’s Golden Eagles have a lot to play for this week at The Garden after losing three of their last five. Kam Jones and David Joplin, a Big East Sixth Man of the Year winner in 2023, have been on a tear the last few games and will need to have big performances if Marquette wants to return to the championship game for the third straight season.

What channel is the Big East men’s basketball tournament on?
The 2025 Big East men’s basketball tournament will be carried across several different networks and streaming platforms. Peacock, NBC’s subscription streaming platform, will stream the entire first round and the first two quarterfinal games. Fox Sports 1 will broadcast the final two quarterfinal games; and Fox will carry both semifinal games and the championship game.
Streaming options for the games that will be carried on Fox Sports 1 and Fox include the Fox Sports Go app (with a TV login) and Fubo, which carries both Fox Sports 1 and Fox and offers a free trial to new subscribers.
