Ashton Jeanty is reportedly the player the Chicago Bears want to trade up to snag in the 2025 NFL Draft.
So I hope Bears General Manager Ryan Poles has a fully charged phone because it sounds like he’ll be busy.
The Athletic’s Dianna Russini hears that (1) the Bears are among the teams calling to trade up in the 2025 NFL Draft and (2) have an eye on doing so to take Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty:
The Bears are among teams making calls in an attempt to trade up, per sources. Teams believe Chicago is trying to move up from No. 10 in an effort to land Boise State RB Ashton Jeanty.

One of my favorite stories of the 2024 NFL’s offseason was the anecdote shared by Chicago Bears General Manager Ryan Poles, who discussed Assistant GM Ian Cunningham’s role in saving the team a draft pick when his boss wanted to trade up to get University of Washington wide receiver Rome Odunze in last year’s NFL Draft. Not only did Cunningham ultimately keep the Bears from losing a future draft pick, Odunze fell to them anyway. A win-win all around in my book. And judging by the newfound trade buzz surrounding the Bears, I think it might take another bit of meddling from Cunningham for it to happen.
There have been all sorts of conversations about the Bears wanting to trade up in the 2025 NFL Draft.
A New York Giants reporter shared that he had been hearing that Chicago’s football team was looking to move up from its current pick at No. 10 and into a higher spot. We discussed the Giants and Browns as possible trade fits for the Bears, as well as the Jaguars. Recent reporting had the Bears “praying” for Ashton Jeanty to fall to them. But it’s not as if Chicago’s interest in Jeanty is new. There have been whispers that the Bears “love” Jeanty. He also met with the team at the Combine and had a top-30 visit lined up shortly after that link-up. There is way too much smoke for me to ignore here.
CHICAGO BEARS 2025 NFL DRAFT PROSPECT PROFILE: BOISE STATE RB ASHTON JEANTY
Back in February, Ashton Jeanty said he saw the Bears as a potential landing spot for him. More recently, Jeanty said (via Marquee and CHGO) that Chicago trading up to get him would not be a bad decision. We love the confidence, even if we understand that trading for a running back in this modern era of football would be an equally bold and brash decision by this front office.
The 2025 NFL Draft is just hours away from opening its doors. Bears GM Ryan Poles said he expected it would be a “wild” time. Assistant GM Ian Cunningham added that the team was weighing potential trade options. We’ll soon see if any of this draft chatter will come to fruition. Stay tuned.
