Man carrying gun near White House shot by Secret Service

PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. — According to a U.S. Secret Service statement a man carrying a firearm near the White House was shot by U.S. Secret Service officials overnight Sunday.

Reports stated local police received a tip on Saturday about a suicidal person who was traveling from Indiana to Washington DC.

Around midnight officials located a parked car along 17th and F Streets. Shortly after officials spotted a man on foot fitting the description of the traveler. Officials approached the man, who brandished a firearm and an armed encounter ensued forcing officials to discharge their firearms.

The suspect was transported to a local hospital. There were no reported injuries to Secret Service personnel.

The incident is under investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department Internal Affairs Division’s Force Investigations Team who investigates all law enforcement officer involved shootings in the District of Columbia.

United States President Donald Trump was in Florida when the incident unfolded.

Former Secret Service Agent Tim Miller said security plans are in place in Palm Beach County to ensure the safety and security of the president.

“The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office is superb and is integrated with the secret services overall security plan,” Miller said “So you may not expect to see much of anything they are prepared for threats exactly like what you saw in dc wherever the president is.”
