APPLETON (WLUK) — The Appleton Fire Department says it has sent ‘swift water resources’ to Waukesha County Sunday afternoon following storms on Saturday that drenched the area in rain, causing significant flooding in some areas.
In a release Sunday, department officials say it was requested along with Neenah Menasha Fire Rescue and Clayton Fire Rescue as part of the Mutual Aid Box Alarm Systems (MABAS).
Three swift water technicians, as well as watercraft to support rescue and evacuation efforts were sent to Waukesha County from the Appleton Fire Department, while four firefighters with Neenah-Menasha Fire Rescue were sent along with the department’s boat.
“The Appleton Fire Department reminds citizens to remember: Turn Around, Don’t Drown! Never walk, swim, or drive through floodwater. Just 6in (15 cm) of fast-moving floodwater can knock you over, and 12 in (30 cm) can carry your vehicle away,” the release adds.
“Our thoughts are with all those affected by the flooding,” said Neenah-Menasha in a post to Facebook.
