Another Earthquake Felt In Connecticut: Did You Feel It?

For the second time in four days, an earthquake that originated in northern New Jersey was once against felt in Connecticut by numerous local residents, especially in the western part of the state.

The latest earthquake on Tuesday registered 2.7 on the Richter scale and was centered southwest of Hillsdale, a town in Bergen County, the U.S. Geological Survey confirmed Tuesday. It was recorded just before 12:12: p.m. and was 12.4 kilometers deep, the USGS said.

According to the USGS website, residents in the following Connecticut towns reported feeling the quake on Tuesday: Andover, Bloomfield, Danbury, Fairfield, Norwalk, Darien, New Fairfield, Newington, Norwich, Darien, Newtown, Shelton, Southbury, New Milford, Greenwich, New Canaan, Norwalk, Ridgefield, Riverside, Redding, Wilton, Sherman, Terryville, Woodbury, Bethel, Brookfield, and Stamford.

On Saturday night, the USGS confirmed an earthquake shook northern New Jersey. The 3.0 quake was centered at Hasbrouck Heights, in Bergen County, the USGS said, putting the time at 10:18 p.m. Saturday New Jersey Patch reported.

A Fairfield resident emailed Patch on Sunday and said, “It felt/sounded like the towns snow plow going through my street.”

These Connecticut communities all reported feeling the effects of the Saturday night earthquake, according to the USGS

Avon, Bristol, Sharon, Simsbury, West Hartford, Jewett City, Ansonia, Branford, Guilford, Madison, Milford, Monroe, Newtown, Orange, Wallingford, New Haven, Hamden, Bridgeport, Trumbull, Stratford, Cornwall Bridge, New Milford, Roxbury, Sherman, Terryville, Torrington, Watertown, Bethel, Brookfield, Cos Cob, Danbury, New Fairfield, Darien, Greenwich, New Canaan, Norwalk, Old Greenwich, Ridgefield, Riverside, Westport, Weston, Redding, Wilton, and Stamford.
