Acclaimed movie, TV actress dies 19 days before 101st birthday

Priscilla Pointer, known for her roles in “Carrie,” “Rumpelstiltskin,” “Dallas,” and more, died Monday. She was 100, and just 19 days shy of her 101st birthday on May 18, according to an Instagram post by her daughter Amy Irving.

Pointer was an acclaimed stage television and film actress; Irving wrote and was the mother to not only Irving but her siblings David and Katie Irving.

Pointer died peacefully in her sleep, Irving wrote. She was living at an assisted living facility in Ridgefield, Connecticut, her son told The Hollywood Reporter.

She wrote that she hopes her mother went “to run off with her 2 adoring husbands and her many dogs. She most definitely will be missed.”

Pointer played the mother of Irving, her real daughter, in “Carrie” and appeared with her daughter in six other movies, Variety reported.
