Josh Sweat signing with Cardinals this NFL free agency

The Arizona Cardinals have agreed to terms with former Philadelphia Eagles pass rusher Josh Sweat, confirms Arizona Sports.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the deal spans four years and is worth $76.4 million with $41 million guaranteed.

The pass rusher is coming off one of his best regular seasons as a pro behind eight sacks, nine tackles for loss and 41 quarterback pressures in 16 games (15 starts). He followed that up with 2.5 sacks and six quarterback pressures in a Super Bowl win over the Kansas City Chiefs.

He presents an immediate upgrade to the Arizona’s outside linebackers room that includes Zaven Collins, BJ Ojulari and Baron Browning, who re-signed with the team on Sunday.

His play alone should have him high atop the list for Arizona fans. Then you look at his familiarity with Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon.

Sweat played under Gannon in his two years (2021-22) as Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator. And boy was he productive in those two seasons under Gannon, totaling 18.5 sacks and 22 tackles for loss.

Sweat marks Arizona’s biggest signing as of Monday.

He’s not the only player to ink a new deal with the organization, though.

The Cardinals made it a point to re-up with some of their own, including Kelvin Beachum, Evan Brown, Baron Browning, Joey Blount and Aaron Brewer.
