Browns must play DK Metcalf twice per year after Steelers blockbuster trade

The Cleveland Browns will have to return to form in their secondary to defend the new-look Pittsburgh Steelers passing attack after landing wide receiver DK Metcalf in a blockbuster trade.

The Steelers have been hunting a big-play receiver for quite some time. Last offseason, they were deep in talks with the San Francisco 49ers over their All-Pro wideout Brandon Aiyuk (a player the Browns heavily pursued as well), then they traded for Mike Williams mid-season looking for a boost. Now, they finally land their big target in Metcalf as the Seattle Seahawks continue to dismantle their entire offense.

Metcalf is the third vital player of Seattle’s offensive success they have parted ways with this offseason. First, they released wide receiver Tyler Lockett, then they traded quarterback Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders for a third round pick (a move the Browns should have been willing to make), and now they have traded Metcalf to the Steelers.

Denzel Ward, Martin Emerson Jr., and company need to keep their heads on a swivel next season as the Steelers’ passing attack now consists of Metcalf, George Pickens, tight end Pat Freiermuth, and more. The Steelers then shelled out a massive contract extension for Metcalf, inking him to a deal worth about $33 million annually.

The AFC North just got more interesting.
