Nightly Pulse: NBA news & highlights from April 29

  • Bucks 118, Pacers 119 (Final/OT)
  • Pistons 106, Knicks 103 (Final)
  • Magic 89, Celtics 120 (Final)
  • Clippers 115, Nuggets 131 (Final)
  1. The Pacers’ victory wasn’t easy. They needed overtime to do it. Plus two Milwauke turnovers in the final 30 seconds, and an 8-0 run to close out the game, but they did it, beating the Bucks 119-118. Haliburton was clutch for the Indiana squad, not only making the game-tying bucket to force overtime but scoring the game-winner as well. Indiana will now face the Cavaliers in the second round in a series expected to tip off Sunday.
  2. The Pistons won 106-103 over the Knicks in New York to keep their season alive and force Game 6 back in Detroit on Thursday. Like the previous games in the series, this one went down to the wire. Detroit was able to get the key buckets down the stretch when they needed them, though, keeping the Knicks far enough away to secure the victory.
  3. Orlando had a two-point advantage over the Celtics at halftime, but then Boston hit the gas and rolled over the Magic in the second half, outsourcing them by 33. The victory clinched a 4-1 series win for the Celtics, who will now await the winner of the Pistons and Knicks series for a second-round matchup.
  4. The Nuggets took care of business and led wire-to-wire in a convincing win over the Clippers, 131-115. The pivotal Game 5 victory gives Denver a 3-2 advantage in the series with a chance to clinch it Thursday in Los Angeles.
  • Jamal Murray: 43 points, five rebounds, seven assists, and three steals.
  • Jayson Tatum: 35 points, eight rebounds, 10 assists, and a steal.
  • Tyrese Haliburton: 26 points, five rebounds, nine assists, three steals, and three blocks.
  • Giannis Antetokounmpo: 30 points, 20 rebounds, 13 assists, two steals, and two blocks.
  • Cade Cunningham: 24 points, eight rebounds, eight assists, two steals, and a block.

Denver picked up the win in a crucial Game 5 matchup, 131-115.

The Nuggets never trailed in the contest and received a superb performance from Murray, who finished the game with a 43-point effort on 8-for-14 long-range shooting.

We’ve already established Murray is cooking from deep, but here he gets out on the break after a DeAndre Jordan block and jams it home to reach 35 points.

The Pistons aren’t done yet and were able to pull off a 106-103 victory over the Knicks to force a Game 6 in Detroit on Thursday.

The key play down the stretch was Cunningham finding Thompson at the rim for the layin here to go up six with 27.1 seconds left,

Despite a poor 6-for-17 shooting night, Cunningham was clutch down the stretch, including nailing the game-clinching free throws with 5.1 seconds left and finishing with a game-high 24 points to go with eight boards and eight assists.

Thompson was also significant to the victory, having his most effective game of the series thus far, scoring 22 points on 8-for-10 shooting.

Anunoby led the Knicks with 19 points, while Towns added a 17-point, 11-rebound double-double.

Exciting finish coming on TNT🙌

The Pistons and Knicks appear to be coming down to the wire again with the Pistons up 92-90 with just over five minutes remaining.

Detroit got up by as much as 10, but New York stormed back off the strength of Mitchell Robinson, who has come off the bench tonight to secure a 13-point, 11-rebound double-double.

Magic lead at the break

Orlando is up two in a lower-scoring affair, 49-47 through two quarters of play.

Despite having the lead, Orlando is shooting just 36.2% from the field, while Boston has made 52.6% of their buckets.

The difference has been the Magic owning the boards with a 27-19 advantage there, including grabbing 10 offensive rebounds.

Wagner and Tatum have been at the forefront of the scoring attack for their respective squads with Wagner scoring a game-high 17 on 6-for-11 shooting. Tatum has added 16 on 6-for-9 shooting, including this drive to the lane and slam dunk finish just before the end of the half,

Oopin’💥

The Pistons came out strong to start the third quarter, and currently hold a 71-70 over the Knicks late in the third quarter.

Getting it done for Detroit has been Ausar Thompson, who has a game-high 19 points, to go with six boards and two blocks. He’s been getting those points by cutting to the rim and either getting to the line or finishing, as he does here, on the alley-oop set up by Cunningham,

Orlando leads early

The Magic have come to play in Boston and have a 24-21 lead late in the first quarter.

Aiding that advantage has been Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, who has a game-high eight points, after connecting on back-to-back triples,

Pacers advance⏩

Indiana was down 13-0 to start the game then spent most of the rest of it clawing back into it, before starting to trade leads in the fourth.

A Haliburton bucket helped send it to overtime, and Haliburton was the hero again in the extra session making a layup with 1.1 seconds left on the clock.

Haliburton finished the game with a team-high 26 points to go with nine dimes, three steals, and three blocks.

Gary Trent Jr. was massive down the stretch for Milwaukee, scoring 33 points in total, with 12 of them coming in overtime on four made threes. However, it was a bobbled pass by Trent Jr. that gave Indiana and Haliburton a chance to take the lead in the final seconds of OT.

Giannis finished the contest with a massive triple-double, putting up 30 points with 20 rebounds, 13 assists, two steals and two blocks.

Knicks lead at the break

This game has gone exactly as expected thus far, and New York enters halftime with a 50-49 lead.

Towns got off to a bit of a slow start but picked it up down the stretch and has now racked up 11 points, including splitting the defense here and going downhill to the bucket to give the Knicks the lead late in the half,

crucial. pic.twitter.com/rmViSewdKT

Anunoby has also been clutch, tying Towns with a game-high 11, and also making three blocks.

Detroit has gotten 10 apiece from Ausar Thompson and Tobias Harris.

🎉Bonus basketball🎉

The Bucks and Pacers will be going to overtime after being knotted up at 103 through four quarters of play.

It was a back-and-forth fourth quarter, but it was ultimately Haliburton who got to the rim for a dunk with 10.8 seconds left to tie the game,

A battle as expected⚔️

It’s been a back-and-forth affair in New York with multiple lead changes and defensive intensity, leading the Knicks to a 23-22 lead after a quarter of play.

That defense is on display here, as OG Anunoby runs back, catches Ron Holland on the break, and gets the rejection.

Bucks hanging in there

With their season on the line, Milwaukee is not wilting away and will enter the fourth quarter knotted up at 75 with the Pacers.

Aside from Giannis’ team-high 17 points, and the sharp shooting of Green, who has 15, Porter Jr. continues to be effective with 11, five assists, and this dunk,

Give and go🚦

We’re underway in New York, and the Pistons have the early lead, 11-7.

Despite their trailing, this give-and-go execution between Josh Hart and Karl-Anthony Towns is worth a look, ending with Towns rattling the rim on the strong finish.

🏎️💨Picking up the pace

Indiana outscored Milwaukee 28-17 in the second quarter, but still trail 47-41 at the break.

Milwaukee’s success has come from beyond the arc, where they’ve made 7 of 16 attempts so far, and Green has shot 4-for-6 for 12 points to lead all scorers.

— Milwaukee Bucks (@Bucks) April 29, 2025

The Pacers have received 10 points each from Myles Turner and Aaron Nesmith.

Milwaukee is fully charged🔋

The Bucks ultimately ended up on a 13-0 run to start the game, and have been able to maintain the advantage, leading 30-13 over the Pacers after a quarter of play.

Milwaukee made some tweaks to their starting lineup and it’s paying dividends, as AJ Green has made a pair of triples, while Portis has one of his own, plus four rebounds and an assist. Of course, it’s Giannis leading the way though, racking up seven points, two boards, two assists, and a steal thus far.

Indiana will need to start finding the bottom of the net to get back into this one after shooting 4-for-17 in the first and making just one of eight triple tries.

With the Bucks facing elimination, they’ve decided to go down a different path with their starting lineup tonight.

With Lillard (Achilles) out, not only is Kevin Porter Jr. joining the starting group, but so are Bobby Portis Jr. and A.J. Green, who will get the nods over Brook Lopez and Kyle Kuzma.

Meanwhile, there will be no changes for the Pacers who will be working to lock in a second-round date with the Cavaliers with a win tonight.

Eliminations looming❓🤔

The Bucks, Pistons, and Magic all are on the brink of elimination.

Each team is down 3-1 in their respective series, and tonight, they must win on the road to stay alive. A difficult task lies ahead for those squads, as the Pacers, Knicks, and Celtics’ home crowds will be rocking in anticipation of celebrating their team’s advancement to the second round.

  1. Milwaukee will have to play without Damian Lillard, who suffered a torn Achilles in Game 4 after just six minutes of action. The injury was a brutal blow to Lillard and the franchise, appearing to send the team reeling for the remainder of the matchup. The Pacers ran away with a 26-point, 129-103 victory, the largest margin in the series thus far.
  2. For the Pistons, they’ve at least already proven they can steal one on the road, taking Game 2 in Madison Square Garden. Aside from a 21-0 fourth-quarter run in Game 1 that saw the Knicks pull away from the Pistons, each of these games has been a physical back-and-forth battle that has gone down to the wire. Will Cade Cunningham and the Pistons rise to the occasion and steal another one in the Big Apple, or will Brunson and Co. punch their ticket to the Semi-Finals?
  3. Like the Bucks, the Magic were able to take Game 3 as the series shifted to Orlando and were down just four points entering the final frame of Game 4 with a chance to tie it up 2-2. However, they weren’t able to get over the hump before falling 107-98, and now are facing elimination. Orlando will once again be looking to lean on their stifling defense and the dynamic duo of Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner.

⚠️Pivotal matchup in the West📢

The Clippers and Nuggets are the only series still playing in the first round that isn’t currently at 3-1. After losing handily in Game 3, Denver responded equally, gaining a 22-point advantage early in the fourth quarter of Game 4. However, the Clippers almost pulled off the miracle comeback, before an Aaron Gordon buzzer-beating dunk sealed a Nuggets victory. Denver will have homecourt advantage for tonight’s pivotal Game 5 matchup where the loser will be put in the position to have to win two straight to advance.
