Watch Canelo vs Scull and Garcia vs Romero LIVE!
Garcia (24-1, 20 KO) is expected to face Devin Haney in a rematch later this year, assuming both with their fights on Saturday, and Ryan says he’s treating Romero (16-2, 13 KO) as if he’s every bit the challenge Haney will be.
“I’m coming back with a bang. I’m not here to play any games come Friday night,” Garcia said. “I’ve got a huge fight coming up next, so I have to take him as seriously as if I’m fighting Devin. We’re going to be prepared, 100 percent.”
Haney will face Jose Ramirez on Friday’s card in another welterweight matchup.
Romero says his move to welterweight has been “long overdue,” and when asked if he aims to go for the knockout on Friday, he gave a pretty honest answer about his general approach to fights.
“When have I ever not gone for a knockout? Every fight I’m in, I go for a knockout,” he said.
Garcia expects a knockout, but says he’s not going to try forcing it.
“I’m not coming for it, but when I throw, usually they go down,” he said. “He’s going to be coming after me, I’ll be coming after him.”
“I’m still going to bring that speed and power,” Garcia added. “It’s just what I do. I’m explosive and I’m hungry. I feel the adrenaline right now. I’m feeling how I always feel: focused, ready to kill.”
