Ohio Turnpike warns customers of text scam for toll payments

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Authorities with the Ohio Turnpike are warning people about a scam going around.

People have been getting texts saying they have an unpaid bill on their account and need to pay it within a certain amount of time to avoid late fees.

The Ohio Turnpike says it will never send text messages requesting payment for unpaid tolls. It says it will send up to three invoices through the mail to collect unpaid tolls.

“However, if you receive a text message from Reliant Capital Solutions, LLC – a collection agency working for the Ohio Attorney General’s Office – concerning an account in collections more than 90 days past due, please contact Reliant Capital Solutions directly by calling 866.738.3182 prior to making any payment,” the Ohio Turnpike said in a post on X.

Anyone who has questions about whether they owe a toll can check directly with Ohio Turnpike by either checking their account online at OhioTurnpike.org or by calling them at 440-971-2222.
