Colorado Rockies game no. 28 thread: Bryce Elder vs Ryan Feltner

The Atlanta Braves had a rough start to their 2025 season. They lost their first seven games—all against National League West opponents—and are still struggling to right the ship. Unfortunately, a three game set against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field might be just what the doctor ordered.

The Rockies are the only team in baseball without at least five wins, without a series win, and without even a win against a left-handed pitcher. Their miserable 4-23 start is one of the worst in the modern era of baseball, and things don’t appear to be getting better any time soon. Maybe they can prove us wrong tonight.

Ryan Feltner is making his sixth start of the 2025 season after a fantastic outing in Kansas City last week. He gave up just one earned run on three hits and a walk over seven innings of work and struck out four batters. Feltner was scheduled to start yesterday against the Cincinnati Reds, but experienced some back tightness after his weight room session. Out of an abundance of caution his start was pushed to this evening.

On the bump for the Braves is 25-year-old Texan righty Bryce Elder. Elder currently holds a 5.57 ERA over 21 innings in his first four starts this season. He’s struck out 12 batters but also issued eight walks. Elder is coming off a start against the St. Louis Cardinals in which he gave up just one earned run over six innings, but walked three batters and gave up five hits. The Rockies need to look for and capitalize on those mistakes. Elder has two career starts against the Rockies. He’s allowed five earned runs on 12 hits—including two home runs—and has struck out eight. His arsenal this year consists of a slider-sinker combo supplemented by a changeup and the occasional four seam fastball.

Roster Moves: The Rockies recalled right-handed pitcher Juan Mejia (no. 33 PuRP) from the Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes. Mejia previously made his debut as the 27th man in the Rockies’ doubleheader against the Kansas City Royals. Right-handed pitcher Bradley Blalock has been optioned to Triple-A.
