Braves Huge Shot at .500 Comes Against Worst Team in Baseball

The energy in Atlanta has shifted dramatically since the Braves ended their series in Toronto against the Blue Jays. They’ve accumulated seven wins since then and the team seems to recognize that they’ve clawed their way out of the hole they’d been in since Opening Day.

Despite not being able to clinch one final win against the Diamondbacks their schedule has graced them with what could be the most important gift of this early season.

The Braves will head to Colorado to face the Rockies in a three game series that begins on April 28. The 4-23 Rockies may be the Braves’ ticket to their first .500 record all season, a feat many fans felt was impossible to reach before their series against the Twins.

Atlanta has gone 7-2 in their last nine games and has seen a shift in momentum long awaited by fans.

“Braves might be back,” Justin Toscano posted on X following their recent win against the Diamondbacks.

In order to sweep this series the Braves need to carry the momentum they’ve held in their past nine matchups. It doesn’t matter if the Rockies are 4-23 if the Braves pitching staff isn’t performing on the mound and if their batting lineup isn’t making contact with the ball in crucial moments.

Eli White and former Yankee Alex Verdugo have been making strong moves for Atlanta offensively and may be key athletes in the batting lineups for this series.

Their teammates and fans are recognizing their impact on the Braves’ recent performances.

However, there are also a few athletes that are going to need to step up their performances in order to ensure the Braves have their best chance of sweeping the series and reaching a .500 record.

Pitcher Spencer Schwellenbach who had been viewed as the Braves’ saving grace after his early performance in the Braves’ first recorded win of the season, has been struggling as of late.

“Schwellenbach has allowed 6+ hits in each of his past four starts,” MLB’s Mark Bowman posted on X. “He did so in just seven of 21 starts last year and just once in his final nine starts.”

The Braves’ pitching staff has been a constant concern throughout this season so far and cannot afford to fall back into a pattern of mistakes. While Schwellenbach has been struggling to perform at his best he is also working to minimize the problems he creates if he has a bad inning.

“He’s fine,” manager Brian Snitker said of Schwellenbach.

The 12-15 Braves are on track to be the 15-15 Braves before April ends. Momentum is high, problems are being addressed and changes are being made to the roster in order to get this team in a positive position that may set the tone for the remainder of the season.
