Australia roped in leg-spinner Tanveer Sangha into the playing XI for the semi-final of the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 against India at the Dubai International Stadium on Tuesday.
Sangha, 23, bowls right-handed and has been making waves in the Big Bash League (BBL) for the Sydney Thunder. He has risen the ranks through the U-19 setup, picking 15 wickets in the World Cup in 2020 to emerge as the players with the most dismissals in the competition.
Sangha was born in Jalandhar but grew up in Sydney since his father was a taxi driver there. He has played for India at the U-16 level, but ended up playing his further cricket in Australia. He is a recipient of the NSW Cricket Basil Sellers Scholarship and progressed quickly through the ladder of the Australian cricketing ecosystem, courtesy of his leg-spinning abilities. He has been a regular in franchise cricket leagues, turning up for teams such as the Birmingham Phoenix and the Washington Freedom too.
With regards to his record in 50-overs cricket, Sangha has played 14 List A games and picked 16 dismissals at an economy and bowling strike rate of 5.86 and 41.1 respectively. He has one four-wicket haul to his name in the format and is renowned to spark timely dismissals operating in the middle overs.
