NEW ROADS, La. (WAFB) – Severe weather is expected on Fat Tuesday, and as a result, several parade schedules are being adjusted accordingly, including the New Roads Lions Club Parade and the Community Center Carnival Club of Point Coupee Parade.
Both parades will run continuously and merge at New Roads Street if needed.
The Pointe Coupee Parish Government, the City of New Roads, and the New Roads Police Department released the following message on Lundi Gras regarding the parades and schedule of events for Mardi Gras:
- All roads on the parade route will start closing at 7:00 a.m. and be cleared of traffic by 7:30 a.m.
- The New Roads Lion’s Club parade will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. with no bands, marching teams, or dance groups. ONLY MOTORIZED PARTICIPANTS/FLOATS WILL BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE.
- The Community Center Carnival Club of Pointe Coupee parade will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. with no bands, marching teams, or dance groups. ONLY MOTORIZED PARTICIPANTS/FLOATS WILL BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE.
- Both parades will run continuously and merge at New Roads Street if needed.
- Additionally, we ask that all tents and trash be removed after the parade due to the dangers they can present during weather. We are continuing to monitor the weather along with local and state agencies. Safety is the most important consideration this Mardi Gras season.
The New Roads Lion’s Club parade will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. with no bands, marching teams, or dance groups.
