One thing that I don’t think is being talked about enough from last night’s Academy Awards is Adrien Brody’s HORRIBLE acceptance speech after taking home his second Best Actor Oscar. It was slow, meandering, forgettable – and now recorded as the longest acceptance speech of all time at five minutes and forty seconds. How embarrassing is that?! He stood up there and decided he needed more time than EVERYONE WHO HAS EVER WON AN OSCAR last night! Worst of all, they tried to give him the hint and hit the music like four and a half minutes into his speech, and he shut it down!
Brody claimed he was wrapping up, throwing in an “I’ve been here before!” (just rubbing more salt in Chalamet’s wounds) and then yapped for almost two more minutes and didn’t even know how to end the speech! It was outrageous! Five minutes and forty seconds none of us will ever get back!
Maybe that’s the kinda confidence making out with Halle Berry (in front of your wife) gives you, though….
Everyone should just take notes from Kieran Culkin’s entire awards season run; and no, I’m not saying everyone should just try to knock up their wives in celebration. Just don’t take yourself too seriously, cut a joke or two, thank who you need to thank, and get outta there. Maybe tell a (SHORT) story if it weaves into the win in some way, like Kieran Culkin! He gave tons of acceptance speeches in the past few months and crushed every one, but he especially nailed it last night….
If you wanna go in the other direction, and get serious about it – like, say: Timothee Chalamet at the SAG Awards….
….just keep it short! Chalamet was up there for a minute and forty seconds, in and out, and everyone was talking about his “greatness” speech for the next week. Adrien Brody won an Oscar less than 12 hours ago and I couldn’t tell you anything he said afterwards besides “Turn the music off!” on the flip side. Just a rough showing for Adrien Brody. Heard The Brutalist is great tho.
P.S. Did I write this whole blog just as a crash out because I wanted Timothee Chalamet to win last night? Yes. More on the Rundown tonight!
