Pros and cons of Pittsburgh Steelers signing Memphis football’s Roc Taylor

Memphis football wide receiver Roc Taylor‘s name was not called during the 2025 NFL draft.

But he signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers in short order after the final selection (coincidentally, his Tigers teammate Kobee Minor) was made.

Here’s what Taylor brings to the Steelers, based on his career with the Tigers.

What Roc Taylor brings to Steelers

Taylor spent his entire four-year college career at Memphis, developing from a depth receiver to one of the best players in the conference who routinely drew double-coverage during his senior year. Taylor broke out during his junior season when he went over 1,000 yards and was Memphis’ top receiver for both his junior and senior campaigns.

He was named first team All-AAC in 2024 and was one of two former Tigers (quarterback Seth Henigan was the other) who earned invites to the NFL combine in 2025.

Roc Taylor highlights, strengths, weaknesses at Memphis

The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Taylor has good size and is a sturdy route-runner. He amassed 950 yards receiving in 2024 even though he was often the main subject of opposing teams’ defensive schemes, so he showed he can be productive in any situation.

Taylor isn’t the fastest receiver, and he didn’t have a great showing at the NFL combine. He also had trouble against man coverage at times and needs to work on getting more separation off the line of scrimmage.

Roc Taylor stats with Memphis

Taylor was a depth piece during his first two years with the Tigers, but he had 1,083 yards receiving in 2023 and 950 yards receiving in 2024. He also had seven touchdown catches in his career.
