Tez Johnson’s football journey will continue in Tampa Bay.
The elusive Oregon wide receiver was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at No. 235 overall in the seventh round of the NFL Draft on Saturday. Johnson is set to enter the NFL one year after former Oregon quarterback and brother Bo Nix, who led the Denver Broncos to the playoffs last year in his rookie season.
Johnson was Oregon’s 10th player selected in the 2025 NFL Draft, extending a program record. He will reunite with former Oregon teammate Bucky Irving in Tampa Bay.
Oregon’s top offensive weapon in 2024, Johnson set the program record for receptions with 86 in 2023 while playing with Nix. It was Johnson’s first season in Eugene after transferring to Oregon from Troy.
Johnson fought through a shoulder injury in 2024 to finish with 83 receptions and help lead the Ducks to an undefeated regular season and eventual Big Ten championship.
In that conference title game against Penn State, Johnson earned MVP honors with 11 receptions for a career-high 181 yards and a touchdown. Johnson’s biological family was in the stands in Indianapolis, a special moment for the wideout from Alabama whose unique journey alongside Nix captivated the college football world.
