Who Is NFL Draft Prospect Cobee Bryant?
After four strong years at Kansas, three of which earned him First-Team All-Big 12 honors, Cobee Bryant is now waiting to find out which NFL team will call his name.
Bryant isn’t viewed as one of the top cornerbacks in this draft class, but there’s no doubt he brings value. At 6 feet tall, he’s not the biggest defensive back, and he’s had some trouble against larger receivers. Still, his high motor and relentless competitiveness make him an intriguing late-round option for teams looking to add depth in the secondary.
He’s also got great instincts and ball skills. Over his college career, he recorded 13 interceptions and forced three fumbles, consistently finding ways to make plays.
According to PFN’s 2025 NFL Draft Prospect Rankings, Bryant is ranked as the 16th-best cornerback in this year’s class. Their most recent seven-round mock draft projects him going to the Houston Texans in Round 5 at pick No. 166.
While Bryant’s tape has helped him gain some attention, it’s his name that’s sparked the most chatter online. So what’s the real story behind it — and is he related to Kobe?
Meet Bryant’s Parents
Bryant’s father, Jaycee Bryant, introduced him to football when he was just three years old. Rain or shine, the two would play catch and build that early love for the game.
His mother, Tammy Ingram, also plays a special role in his life. Cobee wears the No. 2 jersey because it’s her favorite number — a small tribute to her impact on his journey.
The family has stayed relatively private, but it’s known that Bryant grew up in Evergreen, Alabama. He’s spoken openly about tough times growing up and how close he is to both his parents. He’s also said he wants to use his football career to give back to them one day.
As for the big question, there’s no known relation between Cobee Bryant and NBA great Kobe Bryant.
Cobee, whose full name is Jacobee, once asked his father if he’d been named after the five-time NBA champion. His dad told him, “Yes, son, your name’s Cobee Bryant; I named you after him.” Still, Bryant admits he’s not entirely sure if that was the real reason or just something his dad told him as a kid.
Regardless, the Kansas cornerback has caught the eye of football fans — if not for his name, then for his play. Keep an eye out for Bryant as teams wrap up their draft boards heading into the 2025 NFL Draft.
