Kelly Clarkson Left Out of Brandon Blackstock’s Obituary Which Included a New Revelation About His Post-Divorce Life

Kelly Clarkson wasn’t mentioned in an obituary for her late ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, who passed away on August 7.

The obituary reveals that Blackstock, 48, was surrounded by loved ones when he died at home, ending her 3-year battle with cancer, alongside a touching summary of his life and career. “To know Brandon was to love Brandon,” part of the tribute read. “He was a strikingly handsome man… and if you failed to notice … he was always happy to remind you!”

The obituary mentions Blackstock and Clarkson’s two children, River Rose and Remington, who were born during the couple’s seven-year marriage, as well as Blackstock’s older children, Savannah and Seth, from his first marriage to Melissa Ashworth. Ashworth was not mentioned.

In addition to mentions of his parents and siblings, former stepmother Reba McEntire also got a shoutout. McEntire was married to Blackstock’s father, Narvel Blackstock, from 1989 until 2015. Narvel served as McEntire’s manager and the two share a son, Shelby.

Blackstock’s obituary also revealed, for the first time, that he was in a relationship after separating from Clarkson in 2020.

“Brandon, along with his beautiful and loving partner in life and business, Brittney Marie Jones, started building a life, building companies, and working tirelessly to create Headwaters Livestock Auction and what will live on as his legacy, The Valley View Rodeo in Bozeman, Montana,” it reads.

Clarkson filed for divorce from Blackstock in June 2020, leading to a tense battle over their Montana ranch, which Clarkson was eventually awarded while agreeing to give Blackstock 5% ownership. Clarkson also sued Blackstock, claiming he unlawfully procured business deals for her as her talent manager. That case was settled in 2023 when Blackstock was ordered to pay her $2.6 million.

Clarkson has yet to address her ex’s passing, but did step back from her hosting gig at The Kelly Clarkson Show and other work engagements over the past year while Blackstock’s health was deteriorating behind the scenes.

The day before Blackstock’s passing, the singer revealed his illness while announcing that she was postponing her Las Vegas residency. “Unfortunately, I need to postpone the remainder of the August Studio Session dates in Las Vegas,” she wrote in an Instagram post at the time. “While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them. I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows and I so appreciate your grace, kindness and understanding.”
