The Chicago Bears kicked off their preseason Sunday at Soldier Field against the Miami Dolphins, playing to a 24-24 tie.

The Bears had a chance to win late, taking over at Miami’s 41-yard line with 26 seconds and three timeouts, but after a penalty and four straight Austin Reed incompletions, the Bears and Dolphins finished with the game tied.

Kyle Monangai had 30 yards on six carries in the game. Jahdae Walker led the Bears’ receivers with 41 yards receiving and a touchdown. Maurice Alexander and Deion Hankins each had touchdown catches in the game.

Among the headlines from the game were a 57-yard field goal by Cairo Santos at halftime, which would have been his career high had it occurred during the regular season.

On the injury front, cornerback Terell Smith, who’s competing for a starting role with the team, suffered a groin injury in the contest, leaving his status in question for next week’s game against the Bills.
