Racer Robbie Brewer dies after medical incident at Bowman Gray Stadium, officials say

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Racer Robbie Brewer died following a medical incident during Saturday night’s event at Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, the venue confirmed.

In a statement, Bowman Gray Stadium officials said, “We are saddened by the passing of Robbie Brewer after he was transported to an area medical facility following an on-track medical incident during last night’s event at Bowman Gray Stadium. Robbie was a talented and passionate racer, and highly respected competitor among his peers. Our thoughts and prayers are with Robbie’s family and friends at this time.”

Brewer’s fiancée, Angel McCarter, shared an emotional tribute on social media, saying the couple had just returned from vacation after celebrating her child’s second birthday and “making so many sweet memories.” She said Brewer was eager to get back on the track and that his first practice “went great,” leading him to skip the second one.

“I will never forget that long walk down the halls at Baptist Hospital — that moment is forever etched in my soul. Robbie left this world in a way so fitting for the man he was — doing what he loved most,” she said.

She said the two had recently obtained their marriage license on July 26 and were planning to be married on Aug. 25, exactly one year after their engagement. She also thanked friends and the racing community for their support, asking for prayers for Brewer’s daughters, his father, stepmother, sister, aunt, and their extended racing family.

“Robbie Brewer, I love you to the moon and back… and all around the race track,” she wrote.
