Dan Quinn singles out 3 bright spots in Commanders’ loss to Patriots

The Washington Commanders faced the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium on Friday in their first preseason game of 2025. To say it didn’t go well for the Commanders is an understatement, as they walked away with their tails between their legs after suffering a 48-18 loss. Head coach Dan Quinn addressed the media after the game, and he appeared frustrated.

“Alright, well, what I told the team was that there were some hard lessons tonight,” Quinn said. “We have really high standards, and I thought, man, we missed them. We missed them tonight by a lot in all three phases. So, what I’m looking for over the next 10 days is really good improvement.”

The majority of the starters sat out on Friday, and Quinn acknowledged that the team has made strides and there are still evaluations to take place. He made sure to mention three players who did things he liked, though.

“There were some things early that I saw that I liked. Saw some from (Josh) Conerly, (Trey) Amos, (Jer’Zhan) Newton for a couple of early that I saw. Then, past that, you know I ate the score, but when we look at the evaluation, there are still things to get from it, and I expect us to improve a good bit.”

There are fewer than 20 days until roster cuts, so if any of these players want a shot at making the roster, they should do everything in their power to improve as much as they can over the next two weeks.
