Five soldiers injured and suspect detained after shooting at military base in Georgia, US

  4. Georgia Governor Brian Kemp has reacted to this morning’s shooting.
  5. In a post on X, Kemp says he is in touch with the law enforcement and praying for victims.
  6. “As we remain in close contact with law enforcement on the ground, Marty, the girls, and I are saddened by today’s tragedy at Ft. Stewart,” Kemp writes.
  7. “We are keeping the victims, their families, and all those who answer the call to serve in our hearts and prayers, and we ask that Georgians everywhere do the same.”
  8. Five soldiers were shot in an “active shooter incident” at the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team area, which is part of the Fort Stewart Army bas, earlier today.
  9. Confirming the incident on its Facebook page, officials at the base said the injured soldiers were treated by emergency personnel on-site and moved to hospital for further treatment.
  10. It says the gunman was apprehended at 11:35am local time and there is “no active threat to the community”.
