FORT STEWART, Ga. (WSAV) — UPDATE (12:35 p.m.): The shooter has been apprehended. Five soldiers have been shot, according to Fort Stewart Hunter Army Airfield. Soldiers were treated on-site and moved to Winn Army Community Hospital for further treatment. There’s no active threat to the community.
(12:15 p.m.): Rep. Buddy Carter released a statement on X: “I am monitoring the situation at Fort Stewart. Please join me in prayers for the casualties, their families, and the brave law enforcement officers working to protect our community.”
(12:06 p.m.): Appling County School System has placed a Level 1 lockdown: “We are closely monitoring the situation and remain in communication with local law enforcement.”
(12:03 p.m.): Gov. Kemp has issued statement on Facebook: “As we remain in close contact with law enforcement on the ground, Marty, the girls, and I are saddened by today’s tragedy at Ft. Stewart. We are keeping the victims, their families, and all those who answer the call to serve in our hearts and prayers, and we ask that Georgians everywhere do the same.”
(11:58 a.m.): Casualties have been confirmed by Maj. Charles Egan. Some victims are being taken to Memorial Hospital.
(11:52 a.m): Liberty County Schools have been placed on soft lockdown, including Button Gwinnet Elementary, Joseph Martin Elementary and Snelson Golden Middle School.
(11:40 a.m.): According to Maj. Charles Egan, an active shooter has been confirmed at Fort Stewart. Casualties are still being assessed.
Lt. Col Angel Tomko, Division PIO said it occurred in the 2d Brigade area located off of highway 144 near Sunbury Road. The brigade, which is not located on the main Fort Stewart area, is currently locked down as well as Wright Army Airfield which is located about 3 miles from sm2d brigade.
Fort Stewart Hunter Army Airfield (FSHAA) Commander has issued a lock down in the 2ABCT area.
The lockdown includes Wright and Evans Army Airfield.
FSHAA confirmed through Facebook that Fort Stewart DoDEA schools are on lockdown as well. However, there is no immediate threat to the schools.

“Lockdown your facility immediately, stay inside, close and lock all windows and doors. Keep telephone lines open and report accountability to your leadership,” FSHAA said on a Facebook post.
