Tonight’s (Apr. 25) episode of SmackDown featured a women’s United States championship match between Chelsea Green and Zelina Vega.
Zelina earned this title match by scoring two consecutive non-title wins over Green in the weeks leading up to WrestleMania 41. Could she make it three wins in a row over Chelsea with the title on the line this time?
Unlike the prior two matches, Vega had to deal with Alba Fyre and Piper Niven’s interference at ringside. Their only mission was to make sure that Chelsea walked out with the gold, and it looked like they were willing to cause a disqualification to make that happen. However, referee Ryan Tran let the match continue even when he saw the Secret Hervice trying to cheat. He ejected them from ringside, and that was all Vega needed to capitalize with Code Red for the win.
The commentators pointed out that this is the first time Vega has won singles gold in WWE; it was an emotional moment for Zelina as she held up the gold.
Triple H congratulated Vega a short while later while praising her work ethic.
