KIMT-TV 3 NEWS – The City of Garner has issued a local disaster proclamation after Monday night’s storm knocked down trees, limbs, and power lines and damages homes and businesses throughout town.
Mayor Tim Schmidt and City Administrator Kelly White says city workers and local emergency crews began work immediately on clean up, but the official proclamation will speed up the process of working with county and state emergency officials if needed.
The public is being asked to stay out of the way and allow utility workers, city employees, and emergency responders to do their work.
The National Weather Service in La Crosse says other damage reports from Monday night’s storm include:
– 11:08 PM Monday – 8 inch diameter tree limb snapped 1 mile north of Rochester
– 11:20 PM Monday – 76 MPH wind gusts observed at Rochester International Airport
– 11:35 PM Monday – Numerous trees down in Fountain
– 12:00 AM Tuesday – Several trees down in Winona
The National Weather Service in Des Moines reported the following storm impacts:
– 12:07 AM Tuesday – trees down in the City of Ventura, reported by city staff. Power out to at least part of Clear Lake
– 12:15 AM Tuesday – camper at a Clear Lake campground has flipped over, unknown if anyone is inside the camper at this time
– 12:18 AM Tuesday – power lines down in Ventura, reported by public works
– 12:25 AM Tuesday – second camper at Clear Lake campground is confirmed by FD on scene. Address is actually in Ventura FD’s response area: 1201 Highway 18
– 12:27 AM Tuesday – numerous campers flipped over, Ventura FD requesting mutual air from Clear Lake. Some campers occupied
– 2:14 AM Tuesday – reports from Rockwell Law Enforcement indicating that almost every road in town is blocked due to trees down or tree debris, with some property damage throughout town to vehicles and some structure. No injuries from any reports in Cerro Gordo County thus far
– 2:44 AM Tuesday – approximately 8-10 trees down that are still partially blocking the southbound lanes of US Highway 65. IDOT crews are actively working on clearing the road
– 2:53 AM Tuesday – location of those trees are from Rockwell north approximately 2 miles
The National Weather Service in the Twin Cities says some sections of Owatonna lost power and sustained some tree damage as well.
