Live updates: Claressa Shields vs. Lani Daniels fight in Detroit

DETROIT – Claressa Shields is set to take on Lani Daniels on Saturday, July 26, at Little Caesars Arena in Downtown Detroit.

The full fight card began at 6pm featuring rising local prospects Sardius Simmons, Kahmel Makled, Jaquan McElroy, Camaran Pankey, Da’Velle Smith and Leon Lawson III in untelevised bouts.

On the main card, Samantha Worhtington faces Victorie Piteau in the super lightweight division, Pryce Taylor will take on Robert Simms in the heavyweight division, Tony Harrison will take on Edward Diaz in the middleweight division and Claressa Shields will take on Lani Daniels for the Undisputed Heavyweight World Title.

Claressa Shields beats Lani Daniels by UD

Shields dominated on all the judges’ scorecard. Her combination punching, slick defense and accuracy got her the nod from the judges. Daniels withstood heavy blows but survived until the final bell. Shields remains unbeaten.

Through 8 rounds, Shields is landing the cleaner and more powerful blows. Daniels is starting to increase her punch output and make the fight ugly but it’s not very effective. Shields is beating Daniels to the punch consistently throughout the fight. The two closed round 8 exchanging combinations in the corner.

In round 5, Shields found success attacking Daniels to the body. The body shots opened up more opportunities to land clean head shots and slowed Daniels’ movement.

Through the first three rounds, Daniels was reluctant to engage. Daniels was on the bicycle, moving around the ring and not throwing many punches. Shields showed some frustration with Daniels’ reluctance to engage. The fight opened up more in the third as Shields did a better job of cutting off the ring and Daniels exchanged a bit more. Daniels doesn’t have an answer for Shields’ speed.

Harrison valiantly fights back in the final round, wins by UD

Diaz opened the round trying to capitalize off the previous round but Harrison weathered the storm and even backed Diaz up with his own combinations on the inside. Outside of the knockdown, Harrison controlled the fight.

Harrison was sent to the canvas by a counter overhand right in the 9th round. Harrison rose to his feet and survived until the end of the round.

Harrison is dominating the fight with his jab and movement around the ring. Diaz is trying to load up and land heavy blows but Harrison is showing good elusiveness and ring IQ.

Through the first three rounds Harrrison shook off the rust by slowing the pace and using his jab. Diaz attempted to catch Harrison off-guard by throwing looping punches as Harrison comes in range. Harrison also had good moments fighting in close-range

Harrison made his entrance to the ring accompanied by Detroit rapper Icewear Vezzo who performed Up the Scoe. Harrison vs. Diaz is about to begin.

Pryce Taylor beats Robert Simms by UD

Taylor coasted to victory on the judges’ scorecards. His consistent forward pressure and clean punches landed gave him the nod.

Through the first five rounds, Taylor is having success walking down Simms and landing combinations to the head and body. Simms has taken some heavy blows but hasn’t been hurt. Taylor taunted his opponent by dancing and raising his arms. Boos echoed throughout the crowd as they were upset with Taylor’s taunting.

Robert Simms made his entrance to the ring accompanied by KrispyLife Kidd, who performed Kentucky Love. Simms vs. Taylor is about to begin.

Samantha Worthington wins by MD

Worthington’s aggression over the course of the fight got her the nod from the judges. One judge scored it a draw. Piteau had her moments but Worthington dictated the pace of the fight.

Piteau started finding ways to slow the pace down through the middle rounds by catching Worthington with counters as she moved in close. Worthington is remaining aggressive. A lot of rounds feel very close.

From the opening bell, Worthington applied forward pressure while throwing combinations. The fight is at a frenetic pace through three rounds. Piteau is fighting off the back foot trying to slow Worthington down. Worthington remains relentless as both fighters exchange combinations.

Shields walked Worthington out to the ring for her bout against Victoire Piteau.

Veyre beats Boudersa by UD

Veyre landed the cleaner, sharper punches throughout the bout and gained a rhythm through the middle rounds. It was a physical battle as both were throwing heavy blows in exchanges but Veyre’s sharp boxing off the back foot got her the victory.

Boudersa was cut over her left eye after an accidental clash of heads. She slowly exited her corner for the final round.

Veyre is finding success landing combinations as Boudersa comes inside in rounds six and seven. Veyre’s hand speed is allowing her to get her punches off first. Veyre taunted her opponent with her hands down at the end of round six.

After a feel out round in the first, Veyre found her distance from long-range in the second and third, landing combinations off her jab. Boudersa remained aggressive throughout. Both fighters are exchanging blows when in close-range.

Leon Lawson III’s bout was rescheduled for later as a swing bout. The main card begins with Caroline Veyre taking on Licia Boudersa for the WBA Silver Featherweight title and WBC World Title Eliminator.

Da’Velle Smith defeats Martez McGregor by UD

Smith found his range after the first two rounds which allowed him to dictate the pace of the fight. Smith showcased the ability to fight from long range with smooth footwork while also exchanging on the inside if needed. Smith scored a dominant unanimous decision victory.

Smith sent McGregor to the canvas with a right hand to the head. McGregor got up and survived the round.

7:14 p.m. Saturday

Through the first two rounds Smith and McGregor are a great stylistic matchup. McGregor is trying to dictate the pace with his footwork and jab while Smith is being aggressive and throwing combinations. Both fighters have had good moments.

Camaran Pankey defeats Dominique Griffin by UD

Pankey and Griffin presented an action-packed matchup with both fighters landing clean blows but Pankey consistently dictated the pace of the fight with his smooth footwork, accuracy and fast combinations.

Jaquan McElroy beats Joshua Flores by UD

McElroy soundly defeated Flores by consistently beating him to the punch with combinations throughout the four round bout. McElroy landed some powerful combinations but Flores survived until the final bell.

Kahmel Makled stops Devario Hauser via TKO

Mackled dropped Hauser three times on his way to scoring a TKO victory.
