Resident Alien Creator Chris Sheridan Teases “Very Satisfying” Series Finale at SDCC 2025

The cast and creator of Resident Alien took to the stage at San Diego Comic-Con 2025 to talk the news that the series will come to an end after its current season, with creator/showrunner Chris Sheridan revealing that he made the decision to conclude the story a year ago.

“I knew the smart thing was to plan on it being over after this season and to finish the story, so that when we walk away, [we can be] proud of what we’ve done, the story is told, and the fans can feel satisfied,” Sheridan, who also serves as executive producer on the hit show, told a packed room at the SDCC panel Friday.

“In the writers’ room, we crafted a season that wraps up storylines and gives the audience a very satisfying conclusion to the four seasons that they’ve been watching. And I couldn’t be more proud of it,” he continued. “It’s really hard to come up with a season finale and incredibly hard to come up with a satisfying series finale. I’m so proud of where we end up this season … I can’t wait for people to see it. I think people are gonna love it.”

Series lead Alan Tudyk (Harry Vanderspeigle) then got the crowd all riled up by jokingly suggesting that the final episode “tees up a potential movie.”

Co-star Alice Wetterlund (D’arcy Bloom) immediately jumped on the comment, adding, “I feel like there’s a couple of movies.”

Corey Reynolds (Sheriff Mike Thompson), meanwhile, suggested an MCU-style name for the franchise: “The Vander-Verse.”

Tudyk then got another huge reaction by suggesting a fictitious “Resident Alien versus Predator” project.

Appreciating every final moment on the Resident Alien set

When cameras began rolling on the fourth and final season in Vancouver, Sheridan urged the actors to “really appreciate every moment of it.”

As such, the showrunner kept track of when they’d be filming on certain sets for the very last time. “These were big moments where you’re kind of saying goodbye a little bit — not only to each other, but also the work we did and the sets that we’ve shot on for so many hours,” he explained. “So it was good to make that decision early for us.”

While she won’t be working with her cast members regularly anymore, Wetterlund pledged never to say “goodbye to these guys,” before going on to joke that they’ll never be apart because she hid cameras inside all of their homes.

“I don’t believe that we were working for seven years [with four seasons] on-air from luck,” added Sara Tomko (Asta Twelvetrees) of the series’ popularity over the years. “I think there’s an incredible chemistry as a cast and crew, but mostly, it is because you watched us and you loved us.”

Alan Tudyk is raising money for charity with Harry’s alien heads

Now that he no longer needs to become Dr. Vanderspeigle on a regular basis, Tudyk explained how he’s planning to sell 20 of his screen-used alien heads for charity. Wetterlund hilariously sweetened the deal with, “His sweat is still in there!”
