Corey Reynolds (who plays Sheriff Mike Thompson) also posted on Threads, calling Resident Alien the “Best job I ever… had 🥹. Special ‘thank you’ to all the fans who always showed us so much love. The feeling was absolutely mutual 👽🤠😥.”

After an influx of comments from disappointed fans, Reynolds replied: “Thank you all for your kind words, love and support! It’s definitely a disappointing turn of events. Frankly, I would’ve been happy playing, Sheriff Mike ‘Big Black’ Thompson, for the rest of my life 🤠 But, if there is an upside here, it’s that we were somewhat prepared for this, so you, the fans, will still get a complete story. A beginning. A middle. And an end. We’ve still got 3 episodes to go, and they are f–king great! So, onward we will go 👽 friends… 🫶🏾🫵🏾”

Sara Tomko (Asta) posted to a photo of herself on set to Instagram and captioned it with some heartfelt words. “The news dropped today that our beloved @residentalien series is coming to an end. It will take time for me to process and digest this fully, I’m sure… and I will definitely be sharing BTS photos of our many years together in time. For now, I can say with a full heart that this show changed my life completely.

“We managed to make it this far despite Covid and two industry strikes,” she continued. “Every season we were told how lucky we were to still have a job and I can say with full certainty that luck had nothing to do with it because this cast, our chemistry, our crew, our circumstances, our strength was always held up by an incredible team of writers, producers and our ever-growing fans whose unwavering loyalty kept us enduring. I will never forget this time in my life nor the effect this show had on all of us. Thank you for your love and support.”

Elizabeth Bowen, who plays Deputy Liv Baker, also commented on the cancellation. “If I’m going to share the happy, positive stuff, I’m also going to share the sad stuff,” she posted on Threads. “We’re OK. We’ve been thinking that this season was probably our last ever since we got renewed for season 4. This is just confirmation. Thanks to everyone who has supported the show and continues to support us. We love you. Three more episodes. ❤️👽❤️👽❤️👽❤️👽❤️👽”

The series’ cancellation was announced Thursday evening by series creator Chris Sheridan, ahead of this season’s finale airing Friday, Aug. 8.

“I knew going into it that this was likely going to be our final season,” Sheridan told TV Insider. “Creatively, that was exciting because I knew we could spend the time wrapping up some storylines and driving toward an ending.”

“I’m so proud of how good Season 4 is and especially proud that we were able to finish as strongly as we did, with a finale that is probably my favorite episode of the series,” the EP added.
