PHILADELPHIA — Edmundo Sosa will take it.
He helped the Phillies to an unusual 3-2 walk-off victory over the Red Sox in 10 innings on Monday night at Citizens Bank Park. Sosa, who pinch-hit for Bryson Stott in the eighth inning, hit the glove of Red Sox catcher Carlos Narváez for a catcher’s interference in the 10th, sending Brandon Marsh home from third.
It marked the first walk-off catcher’s interference play since Aug. 1, 1971, when the Dodgers defeated the Reds after outfielder Willie Crawford drew an interference call against Johnny Bench.
Red Sox right-hander Jordan Hicks walked Otto Kemp and Max Kepler to start the inning to load the bases with Marsh beginning the frame as the automatic runner on second.
Phillies ace Zack Wheeler allowed two runs in six innings, striking out 10 and walking one in his first start of the second half.
