By reaching the Wimbledon final, Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz have achieved something that only Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal had previously done in the Open Era.
Sinner and Alcaraz are the only Roland Garros final opponents to meet again in the same season’s Wimbledon championship besides Federer and Nadal, who did it in three consecutive years from 2006 through 2008.
Nadal lifted the Coupe des Mousquetaires in all three years, adding to his eventual count of 14 trophies at the clay-court major. In 2006 and 2007, Federer responded by beating his rival in the Wimbledon final. In 2008, Nadal earned the crown at both tournaments.

Sinner has advanced to four straight Grand Slam finals, having won last year’s US Open and this year’s Australian Open. The Italian will compete for the Wimbledon trophy for the first time.
The last time the same two men battled in consecutive major finals was at the Australian Open and Roland Garros in 2016, when Novak Djokovic defeated Andy Murray for two straight Slam titles.
Alcaraz leads Sinner 8-4 in their Lexus ATP Head2Head series and has won their past five meetings. This will be their second clash in a Grand Slam final.
