LAGUNA BEACH, Calif. (KABC) — Evacuation orders have been lifted as crews battle a brush fire in Laguna Beach that may have been sparked by fireworks.
The Rancho Fire began around 2:15 p.m. Monday when a vegetation fire ignited in the hillside area, according to the City of Laguna Beach.
In an update shortly after 5 p.m., the city said forward progress has been stopped and the fire is holding at four to five acres. Just after 7:30 p.m., police announced all evacuation orders had been lifted but urged residents to return home with caution as crews continue to work in the area.
The city said the cause of the fire is still under investigation, but fireworks are suspected.
An evacuation order had been issued for La Mirada Street, Katella Street, Summit Drive and Baja Street. An evacuation warning was in place for areas south of Del Mar in Arch Beach Heights.
An evacuation site was set up at the Community and Susi Q Center located at 380 3rd St. in Laguna Beach.
Road closures on Coast Highway have been canceled. Laguna Canyon Road at El Toro Road is also now open.
The city said recreation classes are canceled, and the Coastal Trolley is not accepting new passengers and is dropping off passengers at the nearest location.
