Injured Wimbledon star Jordan Thompson has admitted he ‘feels like a p***y’ for retiring from his match against Taylor Fritz on Sunday.
And he is now ’95 per cent sure’ that he will not be in any fit state to compete in the next round of the men’s doubles with Pierre-Hugues Herbert.
The 31-year-old has been grappling with a back issue throughout the tournament, and at 6-1 3-0 down it proved too much to bear as he conceded defeat to Fritz after only 41 minutes.
As Thompson disappeared back to the locker rooms, Fritz told the crowd in his on-court interview: “Jordan’s been battling out here, playing five-setters, I respect him for coming out, he was valiant. I feel bad for him and I hope he gets better.”
But the Aussie was hard on himself during his post-match media duties, saying: “Honestly, I feel like a bit of a p***y pulling out. I wouldn’t call it valiant.”

Jarry took issue with the Brit’s behaviour during the match and confronted the umpire about it. But Norrie came out on top, winning 6-3 7-6 6-7 6-7 6-3.
The British No. 3 then told the Court 1 crowd: “He said I was a little bit vocal and I think that’s my energy. I was pulling from my team and then I just said ‘man, you competed so well and hung in there so well and it was an amazing competitive match’.”

World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka found herself playing against the crowd on Friday night when she beat Emma Raducanu in front of a packed Centre Court.
But British tennis fans quickly fell in love with the three-time Major winner, and she felt the support during her straight-set win over Elise Mertens on Sunday.
Sabalenka said: “Yeah, I mean, today I definitely felt all the support. It was so amazing playing and feeling the support. I didn’t have to pretend that they were cheering for me because they were really cheering for me.
“I mean, what can be better than that? I really enjoyed that. I really hope that it can stay the same all the way, and they going to help me energy-wise to stay strong and to face all of the challenges.”

There was frostiness between Cameron Norrie and Nicolas Jarry immediately after their match on Court 1.
Norrie surrendered a two-set lead as the gripping showdown went all the way to a decider, which the home favourite won before collapsing onto the Court 1 turf.
Jarry, who complained to the chair umpire about Norrie hesitating before serving earlier in the contest, seemed to be irked by the lengthy celebration as he did not wait for his opponent at the net.
Instead, Norrie shook the umpire’s hand before going over to Jarry’s seat and forcing the handshake himself. A few choice words were exchanged amid boos from the watching crowd, before they ended with a pat on the shoulder and a final handshake.

It took five sets of hard graft, but Cameron Norrie is into the Wimbledon quarter-finals for the second time in his career.
After Sonay Kartal’s defeat earlier on, Norrie is the last Brit standing in the men’s or women’s draw.
He went tow sets up against big-serving giant Nicolas Jarry before losing tiebreaks in sets three and four.
The ultra-fit Norrie then found the extra gear he needed to get it done in the fifth.
His reward: a mouth-watering showdown with Carlos Alcaraz or Andrey Rublev.

Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova was fuming with the umpire for refusing to overrule the electronic line call during her win over Sonay Kartal.
“I think it’s also difficult for him. He probably was scared to take such a big decision,” Pavlyuchenkova said.
“I think they should. That’s why they’re there for sitting on the chair. That’s why we have a chair umpire. Otherwise, I think soon let’s just play without them, right, and then we’re going to have everything automatic.

Sonay Kartal has spoken out after she and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova replayed a crucial point at 4-4 on the Russian’s serve in the first set when the electronic line-calling system glitched.
The Brit appeared to send a backhand outside the lines but the call never came and the umpire stopped the point before telling them to replay it. Kartal went on to break and Pavlyuchenkova accused the official of “stealing” the game from her, though she stormed back to win 7-6(3) 6-4.
Kartal has now said: “That situation is a rarity. I don’t think it’s really ever happened, if it has. But no, it’s tough luck. What can you do? The umpire is trying his best in that situation. I think he handled it fine.”

Jaume Munar was livid after a ball kid inadvertently interfered with a point during his third-round Wimbledon defeat.
Munar lost to Marin Cilic in four sets on Saturday, and the seemingly cramped conditions on Court 18 did not allow him to patrol the very back of the court without the ball kid getting in the way.
During one point, with Cilic serving to go 4-2 up in the fourth set, Munar scrambled to collect a shot out wide and made contact with a ball kid just before attempting a lob which landed out. Immediately afterwards, Munar angrily approached the chair umpire and asked for something to do be done.
“He [the ball kid] cannot move?” he asked. After the umpire informed him that nothing could be done so long as he was in his assigned position, Munar carried on: “So if I’m running and I hit him, I hit him and that’s it? And we carry on? That’s it? Not let, nothing? I just destroy him and that’s it? I hit him with the racket [during the last point]!”

Dan Evans has warned Sonay Kartal that she will face tougher challenge than anybody is expecting this afternoon.
It is widely conceived that the Brit has a favourable draw and both should progress to the quarter-finals.

Novak Djokovic has spoken out on THAT point in his win over Miomir Kecmanovic.
“It was kind of like an ecstasy, to be honest, in that moment,” he explained. “Yeah, I was super, super happy. It came at a really important moment, as well.
“I think 4-3, deuce, long point. We both were running around each other, around the whole court. Then just that diving backhand volley down the line passing shot.
“Can’t wait to see the highlight (smiling). Yeah, I was pumped for that one. Obviously I’m not diving as much on the courts. Obviously the only surface where you would dive is grass.
“But I’m not used to it as much. So these kind of unique, rare moments are really something you cherish.
“Of course, if you win a point like this in important moment is even better.”

Defending champion Barbora Krejcikova lost to 10th seed Emma Navarro in the third round on Saturday. The Czech star called the doctor and physio during the third set and had her blood pressure taken. She then cried at the back of the court after going 3-5 down in the decider, and Navarro won 2-6 6-3 6-4.
Krejcikova has now said: “All I can say that the first half of the match I was definitely enjoying myself on the court and I was feeling quite well. But then suddenly out of nowhere I just lost all my energy and I couldn’t really gain it back.
“I mean, Emma was just fitter than me. Yeah, was having more energy, controlling the match at the end.
“Well, first of all, I thought that it was the food, that I ate too early. That’s why I started with all the bananas and all the sugars and stuff inside. But I wasn’t really feeling better, I was actually feeling worse and worse with the time, yeah, with the time on court.
“Yeah, it’s very sad for me and very unfortunate.”

The victory came against Miomir Kecmanovic on Saturday, and he made light of his fellow Serbian with a 6-3 6-0 6-4 scoreline.
“It’s very historic, it sounds very nice,” he said. “I’m very grateful and it’s a privilege to be in the position that I am.
“I’ve said it many times, tennis made me who I am. It has given me incredible things in life that I can experience.
“I try not to take anything for granted, particularly at this age. I’m still going strong, still trying to compete with the young players and do some slides and some splits on the court and push myself to the limit.”

“I was dealing with whatever I was dealing with. It was really tough. I’m just so grateful to be playing here at Wimbledon and playing in front of you guys. I have to remind myself how special of an opportunity it is to be out here. It means the world to me. It’s awesome to be here.

Emma Raducanu claimed that she had to wait 20 minutes to have her rackets restrung during the early stages of her loss to Aryna Sabalenka on Friday night.
And the world No.1 responded by claiming that was a rookie mistake by the Brit.
Sabalenka said: “That’s more to have an extra racket, maybe not in your bag, but your team,” the world No.1 explained. “For example, my team, they always have like two extra racquet with the higher tension and two extra racquets with lower tension. They prepare it. You don’t have to wait for another racquet.
“I also had really terrible experience at French Open in year when I lost in semis against Muchova because I didn’t have racquet. We weren’t prepared. I didn’t have a right tension. I had to play with a lower tension. I didn’t control the ball, didn’t feel well.

“In Paris I was very emotional when I sat there (after losing) and now I don’t feel anything. I guess I prefer to feel nothing than everything,” she said.
“I’m just going to be a negative human being today. I have nothing positive to say about myself. I’m glad to be done with this, and I’m looking forward to the hard courts.”

Carlos Alcaraz was left seething with the technology during his four set win over JL Struff last night.
During a change of ends, the Spaniard complained to the umpire, saying: “I’m not sure about it. I would have asked for a challenge.
“It’s not the first time I’ve seen the machine… it’s not the first time. I’m not sure about some calls.”

Emma Raducanu fought back tears in her post-match press conference following her defeat to Aryna Sabalenka.
“Having a match like that where I had chances in both sets, it does give me confidence. At the same time, it’s very difficult to take right now,” she said.
“I think it’s better for me to kind of feel a bit of the pain right now and then process it better that way. It’s hard. It’s hard to take a loss like that.”
