Gervonta “Tank” Davis has knocked out all but two opponents he’s faced en route to becoming one of boxing’s biggest box office attractions.
He’ll look to add another knockout to the list Saturday night when he defends the WBA lightweight title against the WBA 130-pound champion Lamont Roach in Brooklyn.
Roach was granted special permission from the WBA, allowing him to retain his junior lightweight title while moving up in weight to challenge Davis, who defends the title for a second time following his knockout win over Frank Martin last summer.
“Lamont’s got skills. Even at a smaller weight class,” Davis said in December. “He’s one of the guys who I came up with in the sport of boxing and he’s still doing well. He’s definitely a top opponent and everyone will see that on March 1.”
