Olympic legend Caitlyn Jenner may be celebrating the Fourth of July with a heavy heart following awful personal news.
On Thursday, TMZ reported that Jenner’s longtime friend and manager Sophia Hutchins lost her life in a tragic ATV accident near Jenner’s home in Malibu, California. She was 29 years old.
Per the report, Hutchins was riding an ATV on a road when she was struck by a moving car. The impact sent her over the shoulder and into a ravine after a 350-foot drop.
“Sophia was pronounced dead Wednesday morning in Malibu, according to law enforcement and family sources. We’re told Sophia was riding the ATV on the road where Caitlyn lives when she struck the bumper of a moving car — that impact forced the ATV over the shoulder… sending it, and Sophia, plummeting 350 feet down into a ravine,” the outlet reported.
TMZ reported that the two people in the car that struck Hutchins were not hurt.
“Our sources say the first responders who reached Sophia, pronounced her dead on the scene. Two people in the car Sophia struck were not injured. It’s unclear if Caitlyn was home at the time, or if she witnessed the fatal collision. We do know no one else was harmed on the ATV.”
Prayers have been pouring in for Hutchins and for Jenner ever since the news broke:
“This is saddening news. Wishing strength to friends and family during this difficult time,” one user wrote in response.
“I am so sorry, Caitlin,” wrote another.
“Remembering Sophia Hutchins: A trailblazer in her own right, her story inspires many. Join us as we celebrate her legacy and the impact she made,” a third declared.
“Very sad. Prayers out to her family and (Caitlyn Jenner).”

Jenner and Hutchins became friends in 2015 following Jenner’s transition announcement. The two would work closely together for the next decade, with Hutchins even appearing on a few episodes of the docuseries I Am Cait.
Hutchins graduated from Pepperdine University in 2019, coming out as a transgender woman while she was in college. Her friendship with Jenner led to her becoming the CEO and Director of the Caitlyn Jenner Foundation.
Our hearts go out to Hutchins’ family and loved ones.
