The Washington Commanders are finally facing adversity under GM Adam Peters and head coach Dan Quinn. After being hired last offseason, Peters and Quinn led Washington to the franchise’s best record in 33 years. The duo changed the culture and reshaped the roster centered around quarterback Jayden Daniels.
It’s been a honeymoon period for Peters, Quinn and managing partner Josh Harris, who purchased the team two years ago. However, on Thursday, star wide receiver Terry McLaurin requested a trade from the Commanders as he and the team remain far apart on a new contract.

Earlier this week, ESPN’s Adam Schefter said McLaurin wanted a deal exceeding the one DK Metcalf signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers earlier this offseason. Metcalf’s deal averages $33 million per year. The Commanders are reportedly not even offering $30 million annually.
Once the news was out, social media went wild. Of course, some fans think they have a real shot at landing McLaurin. It’s unrealistic. The Commanders want to keep McLaurin, and he wants to remain. But what if a team presented an offer that was too good to be true? While Washington has rebuffed all trade inquiries, you just never know.
Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports named six teams that could call Washington and see what it would cost to trade for and extend McLaurin:
All of these teams make sense. Could you imagine McLaurin catching passes from Patrick Mahomes after being with Jayden Daniels in 2024? McLaurin is from Indianapolis. Would he like a return to his hometown? Of these six teams, the Chiefs and Chargers have the best chances to win in 2025, with the 49ers close behind. The Jets just paid Garrett Wilson, and lack quarterback stability.

Ultimately, it’s expected that McLaurin and the Commanders will work things out.
