2025 MLB Draft tracker: Picks for Texas, Texas A&M baseball and more

The 2025 MLB Draft has arrived, and everyone associated with Texas baseball has a lot to watch for.

As always, the outcome of the draft will have a big say on what the Longhorns‘ roster looks like next season. Jim Schlossnagle and his coaching staff already scored a big win when pitchers Luke Harrison, Ruger Riojas, and Max Grubbs opted out of the draft, electing to return to campus for 2026.

But there are a few Texas players who could cut their college eligibility short if selected in this year’s draft, which begins at 5 p.m. CT Sunday with the first three rounds and continues with rounds 4-20 beginning Monday at 10:30 a.m.

Junior outfielder Max Belyeu could be a day one draft choice. The 2024 Big 12 Player of the Year missed time in 2025 due to injury, but still posted elite production when available. First-team All-SEC catcher Rylan Galvan is another junior likely to come off the board relatively early. Keep an eye on shortstop Jalin Flores and lefthander Jared Spencer, too.

Then there’s Texas’ 2025 recruiting class. Five players who signed with the Longhorns are considered top-250 draft prospects by mlb.com, including Kayson Cunningham and Gavin Fien, who are both projected to be first-round picks. How many from that group make it to campus?

MLB draft picks: Texas baseball players and commits selected

Texas Rangers take Texas signee Gavin Fien 12th overall

The pick holds a slot value of $5,746,800. The shortstop will now decide whether to sign with the Rangers or head to campus and play for Texas next season.

Arizona Diamondbacks select Texas signee Kayson Cunningham with pick 18

Cunningham, another shortstop, plays for Johnson High School in San Antonio. The slot carries a value of $4,581,900.

Colorado Rockies select Texas baseball OF Max Belyeu

The first Longhorn off the board was Max Belyeu, who was selected with the 74th overall pick. He has a slot value of $1.11 million.

Other notable draft selections

Washington Nationals take Eli Willits first overall

The 17-year-old is the youngest top overall pick in history. The Oklahoma native and Sooner signee who plays shortstop for Fort Cobb-Broxton High School reclassified up a year.

Cleveland Guardians select Texas A&M OF Jace LaViolette in first round

The Aggies star was taken 27th overall, becoming the first college player from the state of Texas off the board. His slot value sits at $3.28 million.

Kansas City Royals select Texas A&M P Justin Lamkin

Another Aggie came off the board in the top-100, with the Royals taking lefty Justin Lamkin 71st overall. His slot value sits at $1.16 million.

LBJ pitcher Johnny Slawinski taken in third round

Slawinski, a lefthander out of LBJ High School in Johnson City and Texas A&M signee, became the high school’s first player drafted when the Angels selected him with the 79th pick.

James Ellwanger of Dallas Baptist chosen in third round

James Ellwanger was rewarded for a strong year at the top of the Dallas Baptist rotation by the Minnesota Twins, who selected him with the 88th overall pick.

Abilene Christian’s Dominick Reid picked in third round

Another representative from a small Texas school was selected near the middle of the third round, when the Chicago Cubs picked Dominick Reid, a righthanded pitcher for Abilene Christian.

Kaeden Kent makes it three Texas A&M players drafted on day one

Texas A&M infielder Kaeden Kent, the son of former MVP Jeff Kent, was selected with the No. 103 overall pick by the New York Yankees.
